ALEUTIAN ISLANDS

IMG_2992.JPEG

On the Edge

Eighteen hundred miles west of everything. A chain of active volcanoes strung along the Ring of Fire, where the Pacific slams into the Bering Sea and the fog rarely lifts long enough to let you get comfortable.

In Summer 2027, Krüger Expeditions sails into the Aleutians: viewing walrus haul-outs and seabird colonies, soaking in wild hot springs, and tracing a coastline that's been inhabited by the Unangax̂ people for thousands of years.

Join us to explore, and to deepen the same connection to wild places that drives everything we do.

Trip Highlights:

  • Volcanoes that still breathe: the near-perfect cone of Mount Shishaldin venting steam, and Akutan's still-active peak looming over the village by the same name.

  • A soak with a view:  Hot Springs Bay on Akutan Island... slide into geothermal water while sea otters work the kelp beds offshore

  • Wildlife stacked on wildlife: orcas and humpbacks in the channels, puffins on the cliffs, bald eagles everywhere, and beaches where hundreds of walrus haul out at once

  • Explore the only U.S. soil invaded in WWII: abandoned bunkers and coastal defense positions on islands the Japanese occupied in 1942

  • A sea feast: salmon, cod, shellfish, and wild greens harvested straight from some of the richest waters on the continent

  • Weather that means it: wind, fog, and smoking volcanoes that fall right into the sea make this one of the most truly magical sails in North America
